What are the Tax Advantages and Tax Risks with Ecommerce?

Tax Advantages with ecommerce

Ecommerce has a number of advantages over retail sales, though it can supplement retail storefronts, as well. Anyone can enter the ecommerce market, selling items they make in their garage or workshop to customers anywhere in the world. However, no matter where you are, governments want their cut of the money in the form of taxes. What are the tax advantages and the tax risks with ecommerce? And how does the increasing collection of sales taxes on ecommerce affect the pros and cons of doing business online?

You May Simplify Your Own Tax Return

If you are a sole proprietor, ecommerce is an easy choice. Simply start making or buying inventory and then selling it online. The profits for your business are taxed as personal income. You don’t have to take the additional steps necessary to set up a retail store front such as getting an occupancy permit, a sales tax permit, and signing a lease. Nor do you have to worry about double taxation of pass-through revenue. A side benefit of setting up an ecommerce site is that you minimize your business’ overhead, increasing the odds you’ll earn a profit and be able to take a salary from the business if you don’t just claim all of the profits as income.

If You’re Starting Small, You May Not Owe Taxes on Online Sales

Ecommerce taxes aren’t really an issue if you are what may be called an “occasional online seller of personal use property”. If you occasionally sell old clothes or DVDs online in the digital equivalent of a garage sale, you’re not going to be hit with a tax bill. In general, if the total sales are less than several hundred dollars, you don’t have to pay taxes on it. And if you’re selling through sites like Nextdoor or Craigslist, no ecommerce taxes like sales taxes are due.

What if you’re a hobbyist? If you are selling items associated with your hobby, you generally don’t have to pay ecommerce taxes. For example, selling a few books through your website or Facebook marketplace is unlikely to result in a tax bill. The very definition of a hobby is that you spend more on the hobby than you make from it. On the other hand, if you’re selling handmade World of Warcraft figurines for ten thousand dollars each, then you will owe income taxes on the sale. If you’re buying and selling expensive collectibles, you’ll owe capital gains taxes if not online sales tax. On the other hand, you could reduce the hassle factor by selling through a site like Etsy that collects and processes ecommerce taxes for you.

The International Tax Forms Are Generally Simpler If Not Unnecessary

You can sell anywhere, anytime, and to anyone. In general, an individual or small business shipping small items to customers overseas don’t have to worry about customs bonds and import duties. If you’re selling to a large foreign business, you might be able to put their value added tax ID on the shipment along with the address and be done with it. For contrast, it would be an incredible undertaking to set up a foreign business entity to sell items in that country under your own name. And joining a local business partner to fall within their legal framework is fraught with risk. Just sell it from your website and ship it to the customer. Then you don’t have to worry about paying foreign taxes. And your customer can be made to pay the import duties either directly or indirectly.

You May Have a Higher Profit Margin on Online Sales

How could ecommerce taxes affect your decision to start selling online? The cost of setting up and maintaining your website was already a business expense as was your digital marketing budget. If you sell your products through ecommerce sites that handle the ecommerce taxes, their fees are a tax deductible business expense. Whether you consider the fact that they handle the taxes for you a fair trade off is a matter of opinion.

If you let Amazon or another order fulfillment service handles the online orders on your behalf, then their fees are certainly a tax-deductible business expense. Yet you may have a higher profit margin on the online sales, because you can ship items from your warehouse instead of expanding the more expensive retail footprint. One point in favor of hiring ecommerce order fulfillment services is that you could move into ecommerce without having to hire additional people. Pay a higher fee, and they handle everything from order processing to shipping. All you have to do is keep them stocked. And these services generally have the software in place to handle city, county and state ecommerce taxes for you.

You Can Use It to Reduce Your Overall Tax Bill

Do you have items you’d like to dispose of without necessarily sending it to charity? Sites like eBay let you sell the item with the proceeds going to charity. All you have to do is fulfill the order when it comes in. This form of charitable giving has a number of advantages. The labor and the shipping costs are standard overhead expenses. The value of the item becomes tax deductible, and the value is established by the price the customer paid. This is far simpler than arguing with an IRS agent that the twenty thousand dollar unsold clothing inventory should result in a 20K charitable donation.

Furthermore, your charitable sales may convince people to buy the item who otherwise wouldn’t interact with your brand. This plus the positive impression they get of the brand from your charitable giving often results in new, loyal customers. There’s also less work on your part. Using the Paypal example, they’ll automatically collect the donation and send it to the charity of your choice. You can switch between receiving charities, if you’d like, to see which associated non-profits result in greater sales of slow-moving inventory. Furthermore, eBay is collecting the relevant ecommerce taxes on the sale, if they’re applied at all to the transaction.

What Are the Tax Risks with Ecommerce?

What are the risks you are taking with ecommerce? What are the risks particular to ecommerce taxes, now that nearly all states are levying taxes on every online purchase?

Sales Tax Becomes a Nightmare

The internet was originally an open playing field. Anyone could post anything and sell anything. You could receive payment and ship the item. Sales tax collection was on the honor system, though payment processors generally reported income such that sellers tended to pay their income taxes. Many brick and mortar businesses complained that it was unfair, since they had to charge a five to ten percent sales tax whereas someone ordering it online and having the item shipped to their home didn’t have to pay it. While internet sales tax rules were levied in the name of fairness to small businesses, it was also driven by the fact that cities and states all wanted their cut of the growing online sales.

This has made sales tax collection a nightmare, if you’re not selling through a platform like Amazon, Etsy or eBay that automatically collects the sales tax for you and sends it to the relevant authorities. (Note that Shopify and some other sites don’t collect these taxes on behalf of seller.)

Unfortunately, those platforms take a significant cut of the product’s sale price for the privilege of selling on their platform. What if you decide to manage the reporting of ecommerce taxes yourself? The tax software required to do this easily costs several thousand dollars. And you have to track every single sale including where the person lives, if you’re going to generate accurate reports. The alternative is only selling to customers in your home state or in states that don’t charge a sales tax. Now you’re losing out on one of the biggest benefits of selling online – the ability to sell to almost anyone anywhere.

We’re not even going to address the challenges of selling items that may be subject to additional levies and regulation such as guns and herbal remedies.

You May Have Several States Demanding Tax Paperwork

This is a common problem for vendors who travel around the country selling product. If you set up a booth to sell at a trade show, many states insist that you fill out a sales tax registration form. If you don’t return the next year, they may demand that you file a tax return that says you had zero income in the state. After all, you’re in their database and they expect a tax return.

If you do business in Michigan in any way, you will probably have to deal with their tax agency. Michigan has been notorious for attempting to levy Michigan income taxes on people who neither live, work or run a retail location in the state. For example, the Franchise Board tried to collect Michigan income taxes on an Michigan reinforcement for concrete company who had some customers located in California. It attempted to argue that he had a sufficient “locus of activity” to try to require him to pay taxes. That issue is more likely to occur when someone moves from Michigan to a lower-tax state to evade Michigan taxes, and the state uses things like where you work, where your kids go to school and where you spend most of your time to determine if you truly no longer meet residency requirements. Note that you can run into these rules if you have an order fulfillment center or virtual office in another state. The only way to escape it is to run everything out of a single location or hire order fulfillment services that simply shelve your items and ship as orders come in.

Federal law says you can’t have two different authorities applying sales tax or other levies to the same order, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try. For example, if you live in New Jersey and sell a lot of stuff to people in New York, expect New York state to demand its share of the ecommerce revenue. New Jersey could try to tax you, too. Congratulations, you could be audited by two different states for the same sales. And each is trying to collect ecommerce taxes. If you pay ecommerce taxes to one state, you may have to file paperwork with the other state to show that you have collected ecommerce taxes but just didn’t send it to them.

You Cannot Fail to Forward Ecommerce Taxes to the Relevant Authorities

A fairly common mistake small business owners make is failing to set aside enough money to pay their income taxes and ecommerce taxes. Unfortunately, you can be criminally prosecuted for failing to file returns and remit ecommerce taxes to the relevant authorities. Alaska isn’t going to arrest you for failing to send them the fifty dollars in sales tax you owe them, but New York or California could levy your bank account or attach a lien to your property to collect the ecommerce taxes you owe them. You could even be audited by governments to which you don’t owe ecommerce taxes, because they think you’ve sold a lot of stuff to their residents.

If You Are Trying to Sell Online, Your Losses May Be Limited

The IRS says that your business must be earning a profit three out of every five years to be counted as a business. If you set up a website to sell your music, books or webinars and don’t sell anything, your ability to deduct your business expenses is curtailed. Yet you have to collect and remit ecommerce taxes on anything that does sell. Yes, you may be legally obligated to charge and collect 8.5 percent sales on your one dollar eBook.

Note that you also have to pay self-employment taxes, if you want to be able to claim the relevant tax deductions. Yet ecommerce taxes aren’t a tax deductible expense, because it isn’t your money. You’re simply collecting it to send on to the proper authorities. It is akin to collecting the payroll tax and then sending it on to the feds.

Shopify also comes with a lot of very advanced and capable analytics tools. With their use of Google Analytics, you can see how many times people visit your store or a particular product. This will make it easier to figure out what sorts of business books sell more. Knowing that you can invest in similar types of books in the future, knowing that they are as close to a sure sell as possible.

Selling with Amazon

Que Imperial Star Wars music. Amazon gets both good and bad rep from all sorts of people, but it is without a doubt one of the best places to start selling business books. During its first few years, Amazon was a small online book store, and its owner used to drive around town delivering books. But it has grown, like no other business in the history of mankind. The same can happen to your book-selling aspirations if you partner up with them.

Amazon is equally great for people who are looking to sell the books that they themselves have created as well as the books that they own. If you are looking to self-publish a bunch of books that you have written, but you were rejected by other publishers Amazon might be the next step to make your dream come true. If you create an author profile on Amazon, you can list everything that you have created. But you can also list all other times that you are selling. So, for example, you can list the books of people who have influenced your views on economics and business, along with the books that you are offering to the world. But that is far from all that Amazon offers. You can also link a wide variety of things. This even includes blogs or posts that you have written. This gives your buyers a chance to become your audience and follow your work more closely, which in itself is a great chance for them to not only buy the next thing that you have in line, but they will be notified right away as soon as you publish a new book.

Now let us get to the good stuff, the money. There are a few rules that make Amazon different from other types of online stores or booksellers. Amazon will charge you different fees, one of them being a fee for distribution. In general, this means that you will probably give amazon around a dollar and a half for every book that you sell through them. But you will not receive the funds right away. Every customer that uses Amazon has a 30-day return guaranteed. You will need to wait for that period to pass. Once those 30 days are up, Amazon will note that you have completed a sale. But you will need to wait for more, between two weeks or six weeks until you receive the funds. But there is a payment wall or minimum that must be accumulated. The minimum while selling on amazon is 25 Us dollars.

If you only want to sell business books on Amazon, without the want or need to publish and sell your creation you will need to take another route and create an Amazon Sellers Account. There are two options, selling a lot and selling items on an individual basis. If you want to sell multiple items at once, you will need to pay 39.99 dollars every month. If on the other hand, you are looking to sell individual items, you will pay 99 cents per every single item that you wish to list and sell on Amazon. You will need to add all kinds of information to your seller’s account. This information includes.

  1. Your legal name in addition to a legal agreement with Amazon
  2. Your Business Adress
  3. the third and final thing is to set up a billing system so you can get paid

Amazon has pretty much sold every book that was written, so if you want to add your product to the list of books that you want to sell you will need to enter its ISBN number or just search for it on their platform. They will let your group and describe your products in any way you want. You will need to enter certain details yourself. Those details might include the condition of the book, if it is a hardcover or paperback edition of the book as well as, what edition your business books are.

Basic Tips for Selling Books Online

We think that there are two very important factors that a lot of online booksellers overlook. These two potentially crucial elements for online booksellers are:

  1. The condition of the book
  2. Shipping

Let us take a closer look as to how these two conditions might impact the success of your future online book store.

The Condition of the Books that you are Selling

The most important thing when advertising a book is to be as honest as you can about its condition. Be detailed when you describe the condition. Some people don’t mind when pages turn from white to golden yellow, others might. On most sites, sellers will grade their books as, as good as new, great, good, or acceptable. Buyers also like to be surprised. That is why some of them tend to scale down the rating that they give their books. If we put ourselves in the shoes of the buyers it is easy to see why this strategy is working so well. People enjoy getting some business books that are marked as good or great but is in reality as good as new with only slight discoloration or has been read just once.

Shipping

There is a lot of bad stuff that could happen to something as sensitive and not so durable as a book. That is why, if you are considering selling stuff online your best first move should be investing in great shipping material. An error can happen, even a disastrous one while objects are being shipped from one place to the next. For a bookseller, the worst thing that could happen is if their precious sold books get wet. But luckily, there is plenty of water-resistant material that can be used to wrap your books. Be sure to use the option of tracking numbers. This will be helpful both for you as well as your buyer.

When you state these two facts clearly, your brand story becomes beautiful, convincing, and compelling. Here are the most vital elements that make your brand story an appealing one:

– Show what you are but never tell

– Develop a long story arc

– Maintain consistency

– Make all elements interesting to grab and maintain the attention of your prospects

Make use of social media to establish your presence

The power of social media platforms is unlimited. Offering free access to a large audience, social media makes life a lot easier for architects. With a strong social media presence, you can showcase your architect eCommerce brand effectively. When you are planning to establish your brand on social media, you need to concentrate on maintaining consistency between different platforms. You must use the same logo, business messages, and other related aspects across all social media platforms.

It is necessary to identify where you need to spend maximum time and effort. There are many different types of social media platforms available today. You should decide which platforms work for your architecture business. Your architect eCommerce efforts must be goal-oriented. It is always advisable to focus on those platforms where your prospects spend maximum time. That is to say, identifying the most suitable social media platforms is extremely vital.

Make efforts to analyze the audience. Consider the features you will find on each social media site. Social media encourages dialogue among peers. It is something that architects always value. All leading social media sites offer a platform for architects to showcase images and visual inspiration. Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn are ideally suited to intellectual, technical, and visual sharing. You must focus on sharing thought-provoking content, images, and videos of your projects on your architect eCommerce site to keep the visitors interested.

You have to do your research on your competitors and understand what they are doing on social media platforms. This awareness always offers insightful information to develop an unbeatable architect social media strategy.

Personalize the visitor experience

When prospects visit your architect eCommerce website, you need to offer them an enjoyable user experience. In fact; the focus should be to provide a unique and personalized visitor experience. Various research studies clearly show that more than 80% of customers are interested in choosing service providers that offer personalized experiences. This approach helps you create a long-lasting impression on prospective clients.

You must state your vision and goals clearly. The value you bring as an architect should be clearly mentioned. The way you respond to the queries of the people is important. As an architect, you need to keep everything transparent. The key is to make each visitor important and make them feel that you care for them.

Your customer support solutions are extremely vital. Whenever a potential customer asks a question, you need to respond immediately. It is always advisable to listen to the customers and offer them the right advice and guidance. This method of approach is a critical part of personalizing the visitor experience.

Your architecture eCommerce site should display detailed information on the completed projects with clear images. The feedback of the past or existing customers can be offered to help people assess the quality of your services. The fact of the matter is that you must offer a unique and personalized experience for the visitors and help them make informed decisions.

Offer quality content for visitors continuously

A successful architect eCommerce marketing strategy always asserts the importance of offering innovative and informative content continuously for visitors. As you keep posting useful content, your brand creates a lasting impression on a large number of people. It is necessary to post content of all forms, including blog posts, articles, graphics, and videos to make your architect eCommerce marketing journey successful. Accomplished eCommerce SEO experts help you promote quality content on all your channels to offer value to the readers and build your brand.

You can share your story through various forms of content to connect with your audience. Value-added content establishes strong relationships with prospects. You need to provide them the right solutions to their problems. People are always looking for the best solutions from an architect. It is always advisable to create an impression that you are an authority in the architecture niche. It builds trust and motivates them to hire your architectural services.

Here are the most important aspects you need to consider while developing an architect eCommerce content market strategy:

Create interesting and engaging service page content

You should make your architectural service pages attractive and interesting. The content needs to be engaging and evocative. Clarity and transparency are the other two important aspects you need to focus on when it comes to creating service pages for your architecture eCommerce website.

Use smart blogging tactics

Many architects think that architect eCommerce content marketing blogs should focus only on promoting their services and business. It is a big mistake. There is no need to hard-sell your services using blogs. Unless you are a highly reputed brand, most people are not searching for your services. Firstly, make efforts to see things from your potential customers’ perspectives. You must create a better understanding of your audience and learn what problems they are facing. Then, you need to tell them how your services solve their problems.

Blogs are the best channels to offer your expertise and knowledge about different aspects of architecture to your readers. When your blogs provide value, visitors will approach you to seek more advice and hire your architectural services.

Utilize the power of video content

You should never fail to utilize the amazing power of video content. It tends to rank very highly on search engines. So, your architect eCommerce strategy must incorporate superior video content that brings value to your readers.

You cannot expect to achieve the best results if you don’t use smart content distribution and promotion tactics. What is the relevance of producing superior quality content if people don’t see it? You have to make use of social media and link building with reputable sites to ensure smooth content distribution and promotion.

An architect can use eCommerce to further their business. Your branding efforts become more result-oriented and affordable with eCommerce. To start your journey, you need to create an appealing, responsive, and functional architect eCommerce website. A customized optimization strategy needs to be implemented to generate traffic.

Your content needs to bring value to your customers. The key is to develop a bespoke architect ecommerce strategy that brings long-lasting results. If you want to generate the best results, you can hire a trusted eCommerce marketing company with an excellent track record.

Best Ways to Drive Ecommerce Traffic to Your Website

ecommerce traffic

If you own a business, it is prudent to have an ecommerce website to attract more customers to come and check out the things you offer. Many people are still afraid to go out and having an online shop allows your customers to know what’s new in your store. Having ample ecommerce traffic can help increase your sales. What should you do if you are not getting sufficient traffic to your site or already seeing a decline in your traffic?

Having a wonderful website is not enough to attract customers or visitors to drop by your ecommerce website and check out the products and/or services that you offer. It doesn’t matter whether you are trying to lure in your first customer or the thousandth; generating more ecommerce traffic should be one of your primary concerns in making your business flourish.

Important Things that You Need to Know To Increase Ecommerce Traffic

Having a good amount of traffic to your website is just the start. You should not expect your sales to increase right away just because you have ample ecommerce traffic. There are certain things that you need to provide your customers to make them buy your products and services, keep them coming back for more, and invite their friends to check out your ecommerce website.

You need to consider the following:

– Present a good, useful product to your customers.

A good product is something that your customers find useful and beneficial. It must pass the customers’ cost-benefits analysis. Otherwise, don’t expect your customers to buy anything or come back again. When that happens, it will leave a negative impact on your ecommerce traffic.

– The products or services you offer should have a large market, to begin with.

A group of people who are already spending money to buy certain types of products is known as the market. If there are a lot of people who buy the types of products that you sell on your ecommerce website, it would be easy for you to attract your target customers and increase your ecommerce traffic. Of course, you need a good campaign to let your potential customers know about the existence of your business website and your products or services.

– There should be some compelling stories, articles, or copies on your website.

When you post articles or blogs on your website, make sure that they are relevant to your products or services and useful to your target audience. Your content should entice the visitors to come and check out your website. The product pitch should resonate with your visitors and make them buy the things that you offer.

– Find a cost-effective social media marketing to promote your goods and services.

Take advantage of social media advertising to reach out to many customers to enhance your ecommerce traffic. The different social media platforms offer different ad campaign packages that you can choose from. Choose the one that can help you reach your goal without the need to spend more.

Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Ecommerce Website

There are different ways to gain sufficient ecommerce traffic to your website to keep it alive and earning. Some methods may require a small amount of money to give your better results.

1. Consider running paid ad campaigns on different social media platforms.

Among the social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram get the most number of users. Other social platforms that you may consider include LinkedIn, Snapchat, Twitter, and Pinterest. If your budget only allows you to advertise on one social media platform, your best bet is Facebook. However, if you need great visuals for the things you want to promote, you may want to try Instagram to get the ecommerce traffic that you want.

Even though Facebook has the most number of users, the other platforms have their audience to target. According to the data that PEW Research Center obtained in a survey that they conducted in 2019, the following are the results.

– Most men engage more in Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

– Most women engage more in Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest

– Men and women ages between 18 and 29 engage more in Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.

– Men and women ages between 30 and 49 engage more in Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.

– Men and women ages between 50 and 64 engage more in Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.

– Men and women ages between 65 and older engage more in Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.

– White men and women engage more in Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.

– Black men and women engage more in Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.

– Hispanic men and women engage more in Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter.

– Some college students engage more in Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Based on the given data, you should be able to decide where to spend your money to gain effective social media ad campaigns. The given data can help you draw a plan to increase your ecommerce traffic. You also need to keep these in mind:

– Facebook can help you target users based on location, behavior, interests, and more.

– Instagram can help you create a video, photo, and others.

– Pinterest is well-received by groups that are interested in landscaping, renovating, decorating, and other similar activities.

2. Tell your friends and family to like and share your posts on social media sites.

Your friends and family can help you a lot when they share the things you post on your social media accounts like Facebook and Instagram. Many people will get to see your posts once your friends and family share them with their circle of social media friends. This can help improve your ecommerce traffic.

However, you need to be careful when asking your friends and family to like a particular page. It may look harmless since everyone is doing it, and it is fine to like your page as long as they create proper engagement. If they just like your page but don’t engage with the content about the products or services that you offer, your organic reach suffers a lot and so does your ecommerce traffic.

The low percentage of engagement is a sign that people are not interested in your content, and the algorithm will treat it as something unimportant and will stop showing it frequently. You will not be able to reach out to those who are interested to buy your goods.

3. Write blog posts regularly and make sure to keep and follow a schedule for posting.

When you write blog posts, you should remember these:

– Post regularly to make your audience come back for more.

– Establish yourself as the authority on the subject by giving beneficial tips and information about the product and the industry where your products belong.

– Keep every post relevant to your brand and products.

– Make sure that it is fresh content and timely.

– Don’t discuss an irrelevant topic for the sake of posting something.

– Hire a content or blog writer if you think that you will not be able to release a post on time.

– Avoid copying the content of others and treat it as your own. Google will penalize you when you failed to follow the rules regarding originality. It will also affect your ecommerce traffic.

4. Get to know some of the influencers that can help you promote your ecommerce website.

You can send free samples of your products to Instagram influencers who are highly trusted by their followers. Instagram is one of the most effective marketing avenues to gain ample ecommerce traffic. At least 30 percent of Instagram users buy products that their trusted influencers have recommended or used. Instead of accessing the audience of the influencer, you can suggest collaboration with the influencer in promoting your products.

Before that, you need to make sure that you are making a deal with the right influencer. Consider asking the following questions:

– Does the influencer look like someone who can be your customer and use your product?

– Does the influencer have good engagement rates that have multiple comments in each of her/his post?

You may need to work with more than one influencer to make your campaign more effective. But, you also need to make sure that you will not waste money when you send a sample of your product to the right influencer.

5. Make things exciting and interesting with giveaways, contests, promos, and discounts.

Giveaways and contests are great tactics that you can use to gain more ecommerce traffic, enhance social media engagement, and attract more followers on Instagram. When you give freebies or run a contest, most users start to share the information after they finished their registration.

You can also offer time-sensitive discounts to make your target customers act right away and place their orders. When people learn about the limited-time discount on the products that they can use or think of using, they tend to grab the opportunity to buy the products right away and boost your ecommerce traffic.

6. Use video to entertain and educate your customers.

Many customers prefer to watch a tutorial when using a certain product, especially if it is quite difficult to assemble. You can prepare a YouTube tutorial video that teaches your customers about the things that they need to know about your product.

You may also opt to create a video that intends to entertain, but you need to make sure that it will help boost your ecommerce traffic and not the other way around. You may use any of the following types of content for your video:

– Entertaining

Your audience should find the videos fun and interesting. You will be able to capture the attention of viewers and divert it to your products to enhance your ecommerce traffic.

– Storytelling

If you want to communicate your brand and inspire your viewers, you can consider telling a story in your video. Be sure that it is nothing like a boring documentary that may only make your viewers sleepy. They will not be able to understand what you want to tell them when they have fallen asleep already. It will not help boost your ecommerce traffic.

– Informational

Informational or educational videos are intended to teach or introduce new skills to the audience and build trust. As much as possible, use your product as the focal point of the solution to the problem. Educate your audience regarding the things that your products can do without creating a sort of hype to avoid creating a negative effect on your ecommerce traffic.

7. Make SEO (search engine optimization works for you.

SEO can help you fine-tune your ecommerce website to enhance the chances of occupying the top spot on the search results for your target keywords. To gain success in SEO for targeted keywords, you need to keep the following in mind:

– Make sure that you are posting original content with the right keyword placement.

– It should be readable and coherent.

– Always check the latest rules on the current search engine algorithm to avoid being penalized.

– Avoid black hat SEO.

– Include quality backlinks to boost ecommerce traffic to your site.

You may also consider writing quality snippets to gain a better advantage over your competitors.

8. Make sure that you have a fast-loading, responsive website.

Every page of your website must load fast to avoid losing your visitors and potential customers. You may need to consult your web developer in case a certain page takes too long to load. Once the visitor got tired of waiting, he/she will surely click on the next one on the list and leave your website for good.

You also need to make sure that your website is responsive. What does this mean? Your website must adapt easily to any screen size when your customers try to access your site using a different device. For example, we have a client who does contractor painting Sacramento, but his site ran too slow, so he lost a lot of business because of customers clicking away.  If your customer is using a desktop pc, he/she should see the same layout or screen view when accessing your website through his/her mobile device.

It is also important to keep the design user-friendly for easy navigation and access. No one will stay on a website that is too complicated to navigate or too confusing. Remember that other ecommerce websites offer the same products or services that you sell. You may have high-quality products to offer, but your customers will not be interested to know about it when they cannot access the website right away.

These are some of the most effective ways to boost your ecommerce traffic. You may discover some other ways, but you may need to spend more money to use them for your benefit.

How did Covid-19 Affect Ecommerce?

pandemic ecommerce effects

The COVID-19 Pandemic has had an unprecedented impact right across the globe. In the early days when word first got out about a new disease spreading from China, very few people realized just what an impact it would have on society. As it spread around the world it began to become apparent just how serious an effect it would have.

Countries in different parts of the world made their plans to tackle the pandemic and introduced various measures to combat COVID. A common form of precaution taken was the “lockdown” where again different in each country, bricks and mortar stores were closed, people were restricted to their homes, gatherings could not take place, and travel restrictions were imposed.

In the initial period, as lockdowns were being introduced, panic buying took place in many countries, and certain key products disappeared from the shelves of stores. This caused a spike in Covid 19 Ecommerce during the week of 3rd March 2020, as people tried to buy the items, no longer available in stores, online.

After that spike e-commerce subsided for a short while, although still at higher than normal levels. In some countries where online grocery stores were already operational, there was such demand that delivery slots became impossible to get. The companies did not have the capacity for enough deliveries. It took about a month before the larger companies had purchased more trucks and hired more drivers, but once this happened, the growth of online grocery deliveries was rapid.

The growth of Covid 19 Ecommerce in 2020 was due to three main factors:

New Companies entering the market

Some companies that previously did not have an online shopping presence, and who found their Bricks & Mortar Stores unable to operate quickly set up new E-Commerce sites so they could continue trading.  One we noticed was painting contractors Chicago who never had a website, but now do and are using E-commerce to sell their services.

New Demographics

E-Commerce had been growing for some time and certain demographics were used to buying online, mostly for luxuries, but now new age-groups were realizing the potential and overcoming mistrust of the Internet.

Gen Z and Millenials

Gen Z and Millenials had grown up in the age of the Internet and are accustomed to enjoying both convenience and speed. Where fast delivery is available these groups will automatically shop online and have no difficulty doing so.

Baby Boomers

Baby boomers have typically been historically more hesitant to use E-Commerce but have been forced to adapt to technology when the Pandemic hit. This new group, often with higher disposable incomes, has taken to shopping online with gusto, once barriers were broken and together with the greater number of Gen Z and Millenials, have accounted for the vast increase in Covid 19 Ecommerce.

New Markets

In the past, only a small range of products was typically ordered online, but with lockdown businesses from a wide variety of industries have begun to experiment and implement E-Commerce. Some companies have seen it as a temporary stopgap until they can resume their previous modes of trading, but others who have had to close down because of the pandemic have repositioned themselves as online retailers.

There has been a noticeable switch from luxury goods to necessities during the pandemic.

Not all countries have the same financial infrastructure as the USA and Europe and they have had to adapt E-Commerce models accordingly – for example, COD terms.

The COVID-19 crisis is likely to have long-lasting effects on e-commerce

While some shifts from bricks and mortar retailers to online will undoubtedly be temporary, during the pandemic, it is believed that some demographics will remain with their newfound shopping habits even after normality resumes. Statistics show that the pandemic has accelerated the existing growth of E-Commerce by five years.

In May 2020 during the first round of lockdowns Covid 19 Ecommerce rapidly and the share of total retail sales done online reached a massive 33.8% in the UK. When the first lockdowns ended and stores began to open up again, it was expected that this would drop considerably, near to the figures reached before the lockdown, but retailers discovered that the fall was only some 6%, with the total online share of all retail sales remaining at 27.6% in September 2020. This indicates that many people who had been forced to go online have found the experience rewarding and intend to stick with online sales.

In the USA 21% of people admitted having ordered groceries online as a response to the pandemic. When asked the same question 19% of the over 65s made the same admission. Since convenience is traditionally one of the key drivers for Covid 19 Ecommerce it is likely that once they have experienced it, that a high proportion of them will continue with online purchasing as they have in the UK.

From the retailer’s point of view, many of which were forced to completely shut-down during lockdowns, many of them are considering whether E-Commerce is a potentially critical complementary activity or even an alternative business model.

[Source – OECD Policy Response to Corona Virus]

Some supermarkets who have had branches that were not doing so well before the lockdowns took the opportunity to close them completely during the first wave of lockdowns, and convert them to “Dark Stores” where the public do not enter, but instead staff uses them to assemble online orders.

In fact, even before the Pandemic, the retail world was going through substantial changes. Department stores carrying a variety of goods have suffered in particular and many household names that were once flagship stores of malls in the USA, UK, EU, and Japan have been closing their doors forever. Their previous customers have moved online.

This has a further knock-on effect as people no longer visit the High Streets or malls and the smaller stores that once were viable increasingly struggle. Switching online can be a viable alternative business model.

It seems that the effects of the Pandemic will result in some significant changes in the way we live in the future. Many people, for example, are saying that they intend to travel more locally in the future and that international travel may not recover to the levels experienced before the pandemic.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development survey suggests that internationally many of the respondents will continue shopping online after the pandemic, especially in Turkey and The People’s Republic of China.

Consumers Pandemic Behaviors Continue into 2021

For most people in 2020, there was an expectation that early in 2021 a vaccine would appear and people had a vague idea that this would solve everything. They did not consider how long it would take to vaccinate large parts of the community. The magnitude of this task is only now becoming apparent and many people are slowly coming around to the fact that normal life may still be some way away.

The New Year has also seen new strains of the COVID-19 appear and there is an expectation that some of the new strains may not be responsive to the vaccines that we have finally started to receive. There is an acceptance that there may be new waves of the pandemic soon. This has made people see the fragility of our current way of life and serious thought is being given to building a “New Normal.”

The strength of E-Commerce will continue into 2021 and beyond. There will not be the same growth in 2021, simply because the growth last year was so sensational. Worldwide E-Commerce sales are around $5 Trillion, and the growth in 2021 is expected to be 14.3%, compared to 32.4% in 2020. This growth is taking place in a background of a 3% decline in total retail sales worldwide.

As we move into 2021 surveys show that 75% of buyers and sellers prefer digital options over the face to face options. The reasons given were safety compared to face to face, and convenience.

Statistics for 2020 E-Commerce

We can see from the following statistics that it was a remarkable year for E-Commerce with a large number of people experiencing aspects of E-Commerce for the first time.

1. 56% of consumers have tried a new retailer during the Pandemic.

2. 18% of consumers have tried curbside pickup for the very first time.

3. 36% of consumers, unfortunately, experienced delays in shipping because of COVID-19

4. E-commerce Sales in 20202 to show 32.4% increase

5. Bricks AND Mortar sales expected to show a 3.2% decline

6. Best Buy experienced the highest year on year E-Commerce growth with 104.5%

7. Target Experienced 103.5% E-Commerce growth.

8. Kroger experienced 79.2% E-Commerce growth

9. Amazon experience 39.1% year on year E-Commerce growth.

Indirect Connections Between E-Commerce and the Pandemic

So far we have only explored the direct connection between E-Commerce and COVID-19. That is less availability of Bricks & Mortar retailing equals an increase in E-Commerce. We must also consider the indirect connections as well.

There are some “experts” who are predicting that we may not see a full resumption of life as it once was until the end of this decade, COVID-19 would by then have played a role in our lives for ten years. After the passing of ten years, many aspects of our everyday life will have changed. We will have become adjusted to avoiding busy malls, restaurants, and sports venues. We will, for some of us, become used to working from home, being educated at home. For example, many private school buildings in the Philippines have been put up for sale, as the entire school has switched to online education. Selling a building does not suggest that the management see home education as being a temporary situation.

Where people no longer make a long daily commute into the city to work and are based in their homes instead, the thousands of people employed in the cities to support that massive influx of commuters will no longer be needed. Coffee shops, food stores, transport facilities will no longer be required in such large numbers.

One Possible Future

If this were to be the “New Normal” why would anyone pay premium prices to live in an overcrowded commuter belt? If working from home they can live wherever they want and can move to parts of the country that are less crowded and certainly cheaper. Where people are no longer living in crowded areas in the commuter belt and no longer live near large shopping facilities, where are they going to shop? They will of course shop online. They will work, shop, be educated, and be entertained online.

There are already houses where there are several PCs and laptops, being used for working at home, and education purposes. Homes where couriers call several times a week with deliveries from online retailers, and food stores. Instead of going out to eat takeaway food deliveries arrive from local kitchens.

Of course, not everyone can work from home, but if this move to working from home were to take place, the already shaky Bricks & Mortar Retail Sector would not survive and those people who do have to travel to work would still need to shop online

In the USA, when the first wave of business closures took place 140,104 establishments marked themselves as “Temporarily Closed.” By August only 65,769 were still marked as “Temporarily Closed.” This sounds like good news, but the sad reality is that many of those no longer showing as temporarily closed have shut down forever. More than 97,9666 businesses have shut permanently during the Pandemic.

[Source – Yelp.com’s Local Economic Impact Report.]

Many small businesses are still in trouble and experts agree that we have not seen the end of closures. Kevin Kuhlman, the vice president of federal government relations for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has stated that one in five businesses believe they will not make it to the end of the Pandemic.

Final Thoughts

The Internet is full of terrifying statistics about the impact of the pandemic on our world. It is clear that with so many businesses closing that for many of them the only option is to close down expensive retail premises and switch to online, working from home, a garage, or some cheap out-of-town building.

Whether we like it or not, we seem to be deading towards a world of E-Commerce and a digital economy.

How to Avoid Ecommerce Mistakes that make Visitors Abandon Your Site?

keep customers on website

Do you think that setting up an ecommerce store is easy? At the outset, it is all about creating a website and adding products. As you dig deeper, you can find this task more complex and challenging. A minor eCommerce mistake can drive away your prospects. So, building an interactive, appealing, engaging, and responsive e-commerce site requires a lot of time and effort.

The role of a marketer doesn’t end with building an eCommerce store. You need to deal with more demanding tasks when it comes to running an eCommerce business. It is critical to make the most out of every visitor you are driving to your eCommerce store. That is to say, you need to find ways to convert those visitors into customers to stand taller among the competitors.

Managing an eCommerce site is a continuous process. As you go along, you learn many things. Making an eCommerce mistake is not a crime. The vital thing is to learn from each eCommerce mistake you make. Many people keep making the same mistakes that cost their sales. You have to correct the errors immediately and focus on minimizing the number of mistakes as you gain experience.

How to avoid eCommerce mistakes that make visitors abandon your site? It is a very vital question that many people are searching to find an answer to. You need to stay vigilant when it comes to running your eCommerce store. Here are the best methods that help you avoid some common errors:

Focus on creating appealing and detailed product descriptions

One common eCommerce mistake that many people make is inadequate product description. Your product description is the only source available for shoppers to assess the quality of your product.

Well-thought-out product descriptions clearly reveal:

– Product features

– Benefits

– Uses

– Warranty

– Price and discount

– Manufacturing process

– How does the product function?

– Unique selling points (USP) of your brand

Many eCommerce stores fail to make an impression even with highly useful products and attractive images. What could be the reason? These people don’t know how to describe their products to the users. Inappropriate descriptions never motivate a customer to buy your product.

If you want to engage prospects and encourage them to make a purchase, you should learn how to write an effective product description. So, your product description is critical. Don’t make site navigation complex

Don’t make your site navigation complex. It is a big eCommerce mistake. A seamless shopping experience is what visitors look for. If you cannot provide them a hassle-free shopping experience, they are going to leave your site. Complicated navigation is a common eCommerce mistake that many commit these days. A complicated, cluttered, and clumsy look make prospects abandon your site.

Customers have an abundance of choices available. With easy and smooth navigation features, you need to keep them interested and engaged. Your site must allow visitors to move from one section of the site to the other easily and freely. A highly functional and responsive eCommerce store lets customers navigate using a few simple clicks.

A clean overall structure is what you need for your eCommerce website. Offering smooth navigation features, you can make your eCommerce site visually pleasing and user-friendly. Do your research to know more about the best navigation practices and implement them smartly to deliver an unparalleled user experience.

All clickable things on your site should be large enough to keep them compatible with smartphones and other mobile devices. It is always advisable to offer users top-level categories that are easily accessible on the main menu. Top-quality eCommerce sites always allow users to sort products based on different parameters like price, review scores, and recently added products.

Complex navigation causes distraction. It is a critical eCommerce mistake that makes a negative impact on your sales. You need to keep things simple and offer smooth navigation features to make shopping a convenient and enjoyable process.

Here are the best eCommerce navigation practices you need to follow:

– Make parent categories prominent

– List subcategories

– Create a special category for new products

– Add a conspicuous search bar

– Choose a navigation design that suits your products and brand

Don’t undermine the importance of site load speed

Slow page loading time is a very vital eCommerce mistake you need to avoid. Several market research studies show that around 53% of mobile users leave a website if it loads after three seconds. A slow-loading site is one of the most prominent reasons that force people to abandon their carts. So, you must always be careful about your site load speed.

Make no mistake; a slow page loading time creates a negative impact. Most importantly, it really hurts your online sales. Ideally speaking, your eCommerce store must load within three seconds. You have to find ways to improve load time immediately if your site responds slowly. Maintaining a a slow load speed is a big eCommerce mistake.

As mentioned above, people have numerous choices. They are not prepared to wait too long. If you keep them waiting, they will abandon your site and choose other options. Slow load time always creates an adverse impact on the bottom line of your business. Do you want to offer outstanding UX to your visitors? You should increase your e-commerce site’s load speed immediately.

The Confusing checkout process loses visitors

Do you know that cart abandonment leads to a loss of around $18 billion for eCommerce stores? What is the underlying reason behind cart abandonment? Most eCommerce marketing experts choose the complex checkout process as one of the major reasons. According to them, it has been increasing cart abandonment rate heavily.

The complex checkout process is a major eCommerce mistake you must avoid. Customers never appreciate a complex checkout process. Many eCommerce sites embarrass their customers with a time-consuming and tedious checkout process. Some of them even ask people to fill numerous blank columns. You should not follow their methods to lose visitors.

It is extremely critical to keep the checkout process simple and straightforward. You need to ask buyers to include only relevant information. If you redirect a buyer to several pages to complete a checkout process, you are making them irritated. Keep all checkout information on a single page. This method of approach offers users an enjoyable, smooth, and fast checkout experience.

Get rid of 404 error messages

Another eCommerce mistake that makes users abandon your website is the 404 error message. Online shoppers hate to see this type of message. It certainly creates a negative impression. You must find ways to get rid of 404 error messages. It is always advisable to hire an experienced eCommerce expert to find a solution to this problem.

If a customer is making efforts to discover a product that you don’t sell, you must guide or redirect him/her to a list of similar products instead of showing a 404 error message. It requires some technical knowledge to address this issue. So, you can hire professional expertise to get this job done. Once it is done, you can turn visitors into customers efficiently.

Never hide return and exchange policies

If you want to enjoy long-term success, you must follow transparent practices. Several eCommerce site owners make the eCommerce mistake of hiding return and exchange policies. This approach may offer some temporary gains because you don’t have to deal with returns and exchanges. In the long run, it creates irreparable damage to your business reputation.

You must follow honest, ethical, and transparent practices to win the trust of your prospects and customers. Buyers are getting smarter nowadays and always look out for eCommerce stores that follow transparent practices. You should make your return and exchange policies clear to everyone who visits your site.

When you design your policy, make sure to include the terms and conditions of returns and exchanges. This transparent approach helps people make informed buying decisions. With a clear and transparent policy, you can prevent any potential issues that may surface later on.

Poor images create a negative impression

Increasing bounce rates are a major source of concern for many eCommerce site owners. One of the most prominent factors that increase the bounce rate is the poor quality of your product images or photographs. Customers easily get frustrated when they see an image without proper clarity.

Underestimating the importance of image quality is a vital eCommerce mistake. Image clarity is extremely important. Even some minor color fluctuations may create a negative impression. The photographs or images you upload should be authentic and reveal the important features of the product clearly. Make efforts to update larger images to let customers have a proper insight into your product. If you upload smaller pictures, you should make use of zoom features to help visitors see product images in large sizes.

High-definition photographs always create a positive impression on users. Shoppers cannot touch or test the product when they rely on an eCommerce store. Images are the ones users utilize to discern the quality of your products. To upload high-quality images on your eCommerce store, you need crystal clear photographs. It is a wise move to hire a professional photographer to capture high-quality images of your products.

Experienced photographers focus on lighting, background, and other related aspects to make the images highly appealing. With the help of advanced editing software, they further enhance the image quality of your product to create a captivating impression on prospects.

Don’t ignore the significance of social media presence

The competition in the eCommerce sector has become highly intense. If you want to stand taller among the competitors, you have to explore the unlimited potential of social media. It is almost impossible for an eCommerce site to survive without a strong social presence.

If you think that your e-commerce site is going to perform admirably without social media, you are committing a big eCommerce mistake. With minimal investment, social media helps small businesses drive sales. Therefore, you must make use of the unlimited power of social media to achieve maximum online visibility. Improved social media presence lets eCommerce stores enhance the popularity of your products among a large number of people.

Experienced eCommerce marketing companies design a customized SMM strategy that suits the unique needs of your business. You have to keep posting content on various social media sites to increase visibility and build the trust of your prospects. Make sure that your product pages contain social sharing buttons.

Don’t add out of stock items

Many eCommerce sites add out of stock items to make an impression that they are offering excellent product variety. It is a crucial eCommerce mistake you must avoid. When a buyer finds a product interesting and visits your product page to make the purchase, he/she finds that the product is out of stock. The immediate response will be to search for similar products on your competitors’ websites. This situation makes it difficult for you to regain that customer shortly.  I learned from our Palm Beach Tax Accountants this can hurt your bottom line severely.

Another vital aspect you need to focus on to avoid eCommerce mistakes that make visitors abandon your site is mobile compatibility. It is also a serious eCommerce mistake to force people to sign up to access your product catalog. Unwanted pop-up notifications should be avoided as well.

Poor customer service creates a negative impression on your customers. Lack of adequate shipping options easily annoys people. The bottom line is that avoiding mistakes is highly critical to your success. So, you must focus on all these important aspects to eliminate mistakes that make visitors abandon your site. A minor eCommerce mistake can even adversely affect your conversions, sales, and profits.

Latest Trends for Ecommerce Success

Latest Trends for Ecommerce Success

Introduction

There has been a significant movement away from television, radio, and paper publications towards online material over the last few years. It has been a steady trend that showed no signs of stopping. There has also been a movement away from bricks and mortar stores to online during the same period. Late in 2019, there were the first signs of what was going to be a global change as COVID-19 began to become more than just an epidemic and turned into a worldwide pandemic that required significant lifestyle changes to battle it. Lockdowns and closures of retail businesses in the high street and malls forced the remaining population who had not yet moved online to consider it. There has been a rapid growth in e-commerce since the Pandemic reached its height.

Had you asked experts early in 2020 about the effect that this switch would make, many would have talked as if it was just a blip in 2020, and by the time we reached 2021, things would be normalizing. In 2021, we see that what we believed were short term changes are now set to continue into 2021 and beyond. The longer the pandemic is an issue, the more chance that these changes will become permanent. As this article was written, there were pronouncements that aspects of the restrictions imposed because of the pandemic might be with us for the rest of the decade. There were also announcements that COVID-19 was adapting and that the vaccine may not be the resolution that everyone has hoped for.

The latest trends in e-commerce may well be significant pointers to a long-term change in the way we live. If this is so, it will be even more critical for online stores to invest heavily to ensure they are ahead of this changing scenario.  For example one of our clients who does Jacksonville hardwood flooring removal has switched to Ecommerce to pull in business during the pandemic to survive, but now is thriving because of it.

Customer behavior changed during 2020, and shopping habits may never be the same again. Consumer’s expectations, norms, and values adapted to the pandemic, and digital connections became normal. The trend had been going slowly in that direction even before the pandemic took hold. The arrival of the pandemic accelerated it dramatically during the year.

1-Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality (aka AR) makes it possible to see a 3D representation of the products, which has the customer information embedded into the image. This process could mean the person could see themselves wearing the clothing item or see the sofa in their room at home, with the ability to try various positions.

  • 35% of people said that they would increase the amount of online shopping if there were a way to “Try On” an item before buying it.
  • 22% of people say they are less likely to shop in a bricks and mortar store if their usual e-commerce store offered Augmented reality.

For many years the idea of Augmented Reality has been dangled in front of retailers. It offered so much promise. Finally, in 2020, applications started to arrive. Applications that would allow retailers to catch up with consumer expectations. AR has been one case where consumer expectations have outstripped those of the retailer.

  • 63% of consumers believe that AR will transform their shopping experience
  • 61% of consumers said that they would prefer to shop on sites that used AR.
  • 70& of consumers said they would be more loyal to brands that utilized AR on their websites.
  • 53% of consumers think that retailers are failing to take full advantage of AR.

2-Voice Search

The growth of devices like Alexa or Google assistant has risen sharply during 2020. Virtual Assistants carry out a variety of tasks, which range from playing music to making purchases online.

  • Loop Ventures predict that 75& of American Homes will own a smart speaker by 2025,

Using these devices means that people can order products without ever needing to touch a screen or keyboard. A consumer in their kitchen realizes that they are low on bread, milk, and other items may order the products as they walk around the kitchen. As this technology becomes increasingly common and is used routinely for everyday tasks, an increasing number of e-commerce sites will be optimized for voice search.

3-Artificial Intelligence

The bricks and mortar store can remain ahead of the e-commerce store because it has helpful assistants who may know the customer and can suggest products and answer questions instantly. And recommend products based on stated requirements.

As retailers learn ways to accompany consumers through their online stores, enhanced personalization and the increase in virtual assistants who follow the user around the store will occur. These assistants powered by artificial intelligence will improve customer service and offer a much more personal experience.

An AI-powered personal assistant can

  • Assist retailers in understanding their customers
  • Supply the customer with a personalized experience
  • Permit the store to lull on customer data to provide real-time commentary to improve the experience
  • Automate all customer support services
  • Generate individualized offers based on shopper data
  • Optimize pricing on an individual basis.

4-Individualized Shopping experiences

When e-commerce stores tailor the shopping experience to an individual, the consumers tend to like the whole experience, affecting revenue.

  • One study found a 25% increase in sales after they implemented personalized experiences.
  • Another recent study has noted a 45& decrease in bounce rates.

When more brands can capture and harness increasing amounts of data, personalization can become far more relevant and useful in the interaction with site visitors. Experts believe that personalization is to grow substantially in 2021.

5-Chatbots

My local supermarket employs a greeter who stands by the main entrance and provides a cheery face that welcomes me to the store. He also dispenses useful information that is time-sensitive, like they currently have a particular product being sold-off in aisle x. I also know I can ask him a direct question about where I can find any given product, and he will have the answer and direct me there.

Chatbots allow a store to interact with every customer yet gives the impression that the chatbot is talking exclusively to one individual. In contrast, my greeter in the local supermarket tries valiantly to deal with several customers at once, each of which will interrupt ongoing conversations.

On websites with a “Live chat” option where you can speak to a human, it is often the case that you with what seems like an age to get an answer to a simple question,

  • One study found that 60% of people preferred dealing with the bot.
  • Experts predict that 80% of businesses will be using chatbots this year.

A human trying to deal with several problems will result in a delay. Replacing that human with a chatbot who can answer multiple questions simultaneously, there is no delay. Many people prefer to have a quick response from a bot rather than wait for a human. Having the option to call on a human if the bot fails is perhaps the best solution, which leaves the human to spend time on more complex inquiries.

6-Mobile Shopping

Most websites are now optimized for mobile devices as well as desktops. There are conflicting statistics about mobile shopping that need to be considered.

  • Mobile devices account for more than 64% of all traffic to retail e-commerce stores.
  • Mobile devices only account for 50% of all sales.
  • Desktop devices account fr as little as 36% of all traffic to retail e-commerce websites.
  • Desktop devices account for 50% of all sales.

We can see from this that if people access a retail e-commerce store on a desktop, they buy more. These sales results suggest that despite the increasing optimization for mobile devices, some work still needs to work on this during 2021.

7-Increased Payment Options

Whatever other features your e-commerce website has, there is one essential feature present in all e-commerce websites. This feature is a method of payment, a payment solution. Here are the top ten payments systems:

1- PayPal

Available in 202 countries and 56 currencies

2- Stripe

3- Amazon Pay

4- X Payments

9- Adyen

Available in 200 countries and 250 local payment methods.

10- CyberSource

Security-conscious has 300 fraud detectors.

These are the primary payment suppliers, but depending on where your customers live, you may consider using more localized services that operate in just one or two countries. Often within a particular market, more people have access to these local providers than the major international ones. For example, in the Philippines, the top payment providers would be Smart Money, GCash, Dragon Pay, JuanPay, PesoPay, PayEasy, MolPay, WeePay, 7Connect, Coins.PH, Other countries will also have more localized solutions.

The fragmentation of payment solutions can present particular problems for foreigners living in another country, where they may not find it easy to signup for local payment solutions.

8-Video

For the last few years, video has become increasingly important to e-commerce. There has been increasing use of video on e-commerce websites. Video has been producing enhanced conversion rates.

In a 2019 2019 survey, the results were that 62% of consumers watch video reviews before making a purchase. This significant percentage demonstrates just how important video has become. Most industry experts that this trend will continue into 2021.

Shane Barker, a specialist in this subject, suggests that videos’ importance cannot be understated. A video will explain your products far better than text and images ever can. You should endeavor to put videos with products in e-commerce stores.

9-Sustainability

An increasingly important segment of the market has become aware of sustainability problems and has adopted a new green viewpoint. Catering to this growing trend is increasingly important in 2021. People have become aware of the impact their purchases have on the future of the planet.

Sustainability is becoming a growing factor in the way we choose a product or service.

  • 50% of respondents wanted to see more sustainability in fashion
  • 75% of people would like there to be less emphasis on the packaging.

Brands that are improving their environmental standards in 2021 will have a larger role to play in 2021. Factors that people want to see considered on e-commerce sites include:

  1. Biodegradeable packaging
  2. Increased use of fair trade organizations for sourcing products
  3. Reducing paper use
  4. Increased use of recycled materials
  5. Energy conservation

10-Conversion

In the past, the primary concern has been to get site visitors, and less emphasis was placed on increasing conversion from site visitor to customer. In 2020 there was an increasing rethink about conversion methods, and new techniques were introduced, and greater site monitoring took place to track where potential customers were being lost.

More and more brands are trying to sell to the same market, and companies cannot afford to waste site visitors and not turn them into customers. This emphasis was a subject of some debate last year, and as we move into 2021, this will still be a significant trend to monitor.

Final Thoughts

The spoken word is becoming less critical in web-content. Videos seem to be continuing their meteoric rise as we move forward. E-commerce stores comprising primarily video and populated by chatbots and personalized by AI could look very different from what we see today. Do visitors need to wade through high volumes of products if virtual assistants direct them straight to the products they are interested in?

The pace of change and the magnitude of the changes may be moving us to where current e-commerce trends are not something that we can ignore. The changes coming about now are significant, and all seem to be converging towards a substantial shift in e-commerce. These are indeed exciting times in which we live.

successful ecommerce website

What are the key components to having a successful eCommerce site? The eCommerce sector is a highly competitive space nowadays. You cannot expect eCommerce success with some t beautiful product pictures and a checkout process. Many other factors have to be blended harmoniously to make a highly appealing, functional, responsive, and successful eCommerce store.

What attracts customers? It is a multi-million dollar question. Your synergy of efforts and initiatives play the most vital role in attracting customers. Visitors are on the lookout for the best products that fulfill their expectations. The ease with which people can discover what they came for decides your eCommerce success.

Another vital aspect that influences your eCommerce success is the quality and appeal of your content. It must motivate visitors to take action. The ultimate objective is to make people buy your product. Visitors look for a POS (Point of Sale) process that lets them complete the financial transaction safely.

If you have an eCommerce store, your prospects and customers can access your site from any part of the world at any time. So, you need to keep your store highly functional and responsive to the needs and demands of different people. Your eCommerce success depends heavily on attracting and engaging visitors, improving brand recognition, and make them loyal customers. Let us discuss the most essential components that decide your eCommerce success.

A minimalistic design

Your site design plays an important role in deciding your eCommerce success. Several authentic market research studies show that around forty eight percent of people decide on the credibility of an eCommerce business after assessing its website design. You can come across many eCommerce stores with busy and complex designs. Unfortunately, they lose their charm with time.

If you create an eCommerce store using a minimalistic design concept, you can make a lasting impression on visitors. Minimalism can be achieved with elegant typography and a simple color scheme. When you add a lot of elements to a web page, visitors easily get distracted. You must never add anything that distracts visitors from the main purpose of your store.

Experienced eCommerce developers advise their customers to remove unwanted elements to keep the focus of the visitors to what matters most. So, they always recommend a minimalistic eCommerce design. Minimalism also increases the website load time. It helps you improve visitor engagement and lower bounce rates.

A minimalistic design makes a major impact on your eCommerce success. If you want to optimize your store for increased conversions, you must keep the design simple yet attractive. Your ultimate focus should be on closing the sale. It is always advisable to focus on creating a clean and simple ecommerce website that delivers sustainable results.

Mobile responsiveness

Responsive web design is one of the most basic and essential components of an eCommerce website. The number of mobile users has been increasing at a rapid pace for the past few years. If you don’t keep your eCommerce site mobile-friendly, you would end up losing many visitors. So, your eCommerce success is highly dependent on the mobile responsiveness of your site.

No matter what device a user makes use of, your eCommerce store must be responsive to keep the conversion rate higher. Here are the most important things you need to be aware of while making your site mobile-friendly.

– Focus on keeping your mobile navigation easy to use

– Make sure that your checkout cart works easily on mobile devices

– Make dedicated efforts to keep your mobile version simple, organized, and clean with the clearly visible call to action buttons and links

– Ensure that all tabs, including Next, Page, Navigation, and Checkout have adequate space to tap them easily.

A responsive website plays a critical role in deciding your eCommerce success. With numerous choices available, visitors demand an immediate response. If you cannot provide them what they want instantly, you are going to lose a lot of visitors. So, keep your site mobile-friendly to encourage visitor engagement and increase conversions.

Intuitive navigation

Your eCommerce sites should be easy to navigate. A smooth and fulfilling user experience is what people are looking for nowadays. Your site navigation features must help shoppers discover products fast and easily. Smart navigation always takes user experience to a new level, which in turn results in increased sales, revenue, and profits.

On the contrary, poor navigation features frustrate users and lead to increased bounce rates. If you want eCommerce success, you must focus on offering an intuitive navigation experience for your visitors. Your primary goal is to make it easy for customers to find what they are searching for. It is necessary to have a clear idea about the product categorization.

Here are some vital tips on making your site navigation intuitive:

– Organize your product listings with purposeful categories, subcategories, and labels

– Add the most important pages in the main navigation

– Include a responsive search bar to help customers find products instantly

– Make a clear distinction between an attribute and a category

– Perform user testing to identify the right labels for your navigation

Clear product images

Image or photograph quality is one of the most crucial components that determine your eCommerce success. Your product images communicate with prospects instantly. Creating a positive impression, crystal clear photographs or images motivate visitors to take action. If you offer just one product image that is vague, small, and pixelated, you are finding ways to distract people.

Clear and attractive product images always inspire visitors to purchase the product. It is always advisable to hire an experienced professional photographer to make your product images lively and inspiring. Follow these vital tips to make your product images appealing;

– Use good lighting to make your products looks unique and inspiring

– Add a gallery of images to display all vital features of your products

– Include the Lightbox or Zoom function to help visitors see a larger version of the product images

Product image quality makes a strong impact on your eCommerce success. So, you have to invest in high-quality product photography to showcase the strengths of your product convincingly.

Detailed yet appealing product descriptions

You should let the visitors make informed buying decisions. If your product information is incomplete or misleading, people won’t make a purchase. It is vital to list all the important features of your products or services. For example if you do California Welding and there are several types of welding you do, you must provide adequate information for visitors so that they can choose the right one immediately.

Customers can ask the sales staff about the features of a product when they are in a conventional store. There are no salespeople to offer product details in an eCommerce store. The product descriptions perform the task of a sales staff in a virtual store. That is where the importance of detailed and appealing product descriptions comes in.

Detailed and engaging product descriptions strongly influence your eCommerce success. You must capture the imagination of your prospects before drafting a description. It is necessary to be creative with your descriptions to make a captivating impact on visitors. An engaging description tells the story of a product and focuses on communicating how it benefits the user.

With a clear focus on the emotional needs of the customers, well-thought-out descriptions keep them interested. The benefits are conveyed without any ambiguity. You can even add videos that reveal how your products make their life better.

Smooth, easy, and safe checkout process

Your checkout process and eCommerce success are two closely related aspects. Visitors leave your site without making a purchase if you find the checkout process complicated. Many market studies show that incompetent and problematic checkout processes lead to a customer loss of up to 67%. That is to say, if you cannot provide a smooth and easy checkout experience, you are not going to succeed as an eCommerce site owner.

The best eCommerce sites allow buyers to add favorite products to their shopping carts before proceeding to the checkout page. It is necessary not to confuse people during checkout. You must let the buyers view exactly what they have added to the carts. The safety of the checkout process is critically important as well. Nobody wants to expose their sensitive information so that it reaches the wrong hands.

Your checkout process must contain multiple payment options to accommodate the varying needs of different people. Multiple payment options make things extremely convenient for buyers. Some people like to use the Cash On Delivery (COD) options while some others may prefer electronic payment methods. When you offer different payment options, customers can choose a convenient method that suits their exact needs.

The most common online payment options include:

– Credit card

– Debit card

PayPal

– Cash On Delivery (COD)

– UPI payments

You should create a large, clear checkout button on your eCommerce store. Don’t come up with unexpected costs at checkout. It is always advisable to keep the process of editing cart contents easy. Other critical aspects you need to focus on to offer s smooth checkout experience for your customers are:

– Display images of the products in the cart

– Make contacting support easy

– Show security logos clearly

– Provide information on shipping

– Optimize your eCommerce site for fast load time

If you focus on all these important aspects, you can achieve eCommerce success fast. Further, sustainable results can be accomplished with minimal effort.

A clear and transparent return policy

A clear and transparent return policy plays an important role in determining your eCommerce success. The best thing is to take all precautions that eliminate the possibility of a product return. When do buyers return their products? A product is returned when a customer feels disappointed with its performance. You can prevent this situation to a certain extent by providing accurate, honest, and detailed product images and descriptions.

No matter how much effort you put in to avoid returns and exchanges, you cannot rule out the possibility of product returns. If you have to deal with a product return, you should perform it responsibly. Moreover, a well-structured and transparent return policy helps your customers make the buying decision confidently. Since they can ask for a refund or exchange, they go on to purchase your product immediately.

Important things to consider while preparing your product return policy:

– Keep the instructions easy to find

– Use simple and easy-to-understand language

– Don’t include any complex legal or internal policy jargons

– Be explicit and clear about all expenses

– State clearly whether the return is for credit, exchange, or cash

These guidelines help you win the trust of the customers and take you closer to eCommerce success.

An accurate search function

Visitors are looking for fast and accurate results while conducting a product search. If your search filters provide results that do not match what people are searching for, they get annoyed. Most people are likely to leave your site to look at other options available.

Online shoppers always want the best results instantly. You have to make sure your eCommerce site utilizes the most advanced, responsive, and reliable search engine software that lets users filter for more polished search options. If you have a large inventory of products, you should offer highly refined search filters that generate accurate results fast.

A proper communication channel to deliver the best customer support

A healthy customer relationship makes a major impact on your eCommerce success. To maintain excellent relationships with customers, you have to put in place proper communication channels. Successful eCommerce stores offer live chat, telephone, email, and FAQ features to deliver the best customer support solutions.

When it comes to making a purchase, new as well as regular customers may have some queries. You need to answer them properly and on time to motivate them to take action. Establishing active communication channels is critical to your eCommerce success. With responsive communication channels, you can make the customer feel connected to you.

These key components play a vital role in determining your eCommerce success. The eCommerce industry is a highly competitive one that is evolving at a rapid pace. You need to stay up-to-date with these changes and make the necessary changes to keep your store optimally functional.

How to Set Up a Virtual Class Online

setting up an online class

The new reality of the pandemic has made us put aside face-to-face classes in favor of virtual learning. This is a new experience for many that can be intimidating or strange. However, it is possible to become a trained teacher with sufficient confidence in your abilities with some tools and tips.

If this is the first time you have the opportunity to teach online or even be a speaker at a webinar, here we will provide you with some convenient tips that can be very helpful to do so successfully.

How to keep the attention of the students?

This is one of the most delicate points when conducting online classes. Since each attendee is remote, it is straightforward to get distracted and stop paying attention, which is a problem. Some dynamics and tools can help you keep the attention of the assistants in the Virtual Learning process.

Before preparing specific materials for a class, it is necessary to be very clear about how the available resources are adapted to the subject we want to teach and how the student can take advantage of them.

Introduction of the topic

We have all attended classes where we did not know what we had gone for, where the teacher directly entered the subject. We did not find sense to dedicate time to these abstract concepts. This cannot happen in your classes. Create a context, a starting point, even something like an Asbestos Class. If possible, link it to current events or give a practical example.

It is also an excellent technique for Virtual Learning to challenge the minds of the students. To do this, you can propose a challenge, something that causes a cognitive conflict between what they know and what you will explain. In this way, they will be much more attentive.

Presentations

Presentations are the lifeblood of your class, so the more entertaining, engaging, and dynamic they are, the better. It is not about overloading everything with animations or animated gifs. Still, it is about breaking the monotony of the class a bit.

They must be consistent with the students’ characteristics, such as age and educational level, as well as the subject or subject in question. For example, a concept map is handy for studying history but not so useful for mathematics.

There are platforms like Genially or Canva that allow you to create beautiful presentations, animations, videos, or images, and they are straightforward to use.

Interact with students

Especially during development, you should seek to connect with your audience. Students are fed up with boring classes in which the teacher drops his block, and that’s it.

Ask questions that make them think, give them time to express themselves, take the initiative, and suggest an exercise. Involve your students in the class. A proactive attitude in class makes Virtual Learning much easier.

Question and answer rounds

One of the newest techniques in education is feedback, that is, allowing students to participate, add information, ask questions, and more.

Some applications that are very useful for Virtual Learning are Mentimeter or Kahoot. Both allow you to create surveys, ask questions and consult the students in a fun and practical way during class.

Volunteer or victim?

Suppose you see that there is little participation, and no one wants to volunteer to answer questions. In that case, you can use “Wheel of names”, which is a wheel where you can put your students’ names, and when you spin the Wheel, a random victim will come out. You can even customize it with suspense music to make it more exciting.

Dynamism above all

Many people suffer from stage fright, which causes them to speak in a monotonous and non-stop manner during their presentations. This forces students to quickly lose their attention and interest in their Virtual Learning classes.

Prepare an outline or a script that marks the class’s development and helps you not to leave the topics to be discussed (although it may be necessary at some point). Make sure it is clear to both you and the student. They must perceive a structure and feel that it will help them better organize themselves when reviewing and studying independently.

Rehearse the class’s content before giving the lesson, evaluate your tone of voice, incorporate humor as necessary, consider what points you can pause. Also, it would help to ask students some questions.

It is essential that you can know the student’s opinion at the end of the class. In addition to asking directly, you can create some kind of questionnaire to assess learning. On the other hand, it is convenient to establish a continuity for what has been taught, planning tasks to correct in another session, and making recapitulations at the beginning of the classes.

How to correctly plan a virtual class?

Students know perfectly well when a teacher arrives with the class prepared or improvised it on the go. In Virtual Learning, the same thing happens.

The class must have an objective, explain the central concept, and all this in an entertaining way. While it is true that improvisation comes in handy at specific times, it is also true that planning is essential for a good teaching activity. And the spelling too.

Check out the three steps on how to plan a class:

Purpose of the class

They are your goals for that class. Please take into account the context of the student and where he is learning. You should be able to adapt your explanation to their level.

Each class must have a goal. For example, today’s goal is for my students to learn how to add 1-digit numbers.

Now we need to give it a meaning, something that makes them see its practical application.

Hook

Please find a way to get their attention. A good story or an introductory activity are two exciting options. It is best that you count an application in everyday life, although it will not always be possible.

Continuing with the silly example, if you have five apples and they give you 2, you will have seven apples.

Putting this very basic example helps me to show you that what may seem like a truism to you as a teacher, for the student is not. So don’t take anything for granted, but put yourself in the shoes of the students.

Key points

Make a synthesis of the lesson and select the most relevant of Virtual Learning. What concepts do you want to burn in his memory?

That is the core of the class, also called “the Core.” In our example, the core is adding values of one-digit numbers. To do this, they first have to know the numbers and understand that the unit is 1.

Thus, they will know that two is twice 1; the 3, three times 1, etc. Without prior knowledge, they will not be able to add.

Your work environment

Although an online class also allows a lot of mobility for the teacher, it is very important that the space from which the class is taught meets a series of requirements. All resources, both technological (headphones, micro, speakers, etc.), and non-technological (books, material to show the student and everything that the subject to be taught may require), must be kept within reach.

Do not forget that the place must have good lighting and it is essential that there are no noises that could interfere with the class.

Once you have your class content established and organized, it is crucial to monitor and organize your work environment. The distractions, technical problems, and late-night improvisations can create a bad experience.

High-speed internet connection

This is one of the main factors that will help the transmission not face any interruption or lag between the audio and the video, which would be detrimental to your students. It is ideal to have High-speed Internet since to transmit video, it is necessary to have a good upload speed.

This guarantees good speed and stability on your Internet connection. This investment can make a big difference when it comes to teaching life. In case your Internet connection is slow, you will have to take the following precautions into account:

  • Close the browser tabs you don’t need for your class.
  • If possible, connect with an ethernet cable to the router instead of wirelessly.
  • If you have to connect via Wifi, disconnect other devices that are using the same network.
  • Ask your family not to use the Internet to download files or watch movies and series online while you are teaching.

Webcam

Having a good webcam will allow students to see their teacher. There are different models on the market; the important thing is to get one with a fair resolution (Full HD 1080p). The lighting can be adjusted and has a good definition. Once you have your camera, test it before class to make sure it’s working correctly.

Sound

Having a microphone will allow you to be heard by your students or the Virtual Learning assistants and headphones to listen to the assistants (if this is necessary). While it is true that there are professional microphones with different functionalities on the market, the important thing is that it works and that it has a reasonable volume.

There is nothing wrong with using a headset that incorporates headphones and a microphone. Still, it is crucial to test it beforehand to verify its function. Ideally, use headphones to avoid background echo problems (an echo that increases over time).

Physical space

Select the place in the house where you are going to be when giving the class. Your background must be clean and tidy. It does not matter if it is just a white wall; the idea is that it does not turn out to be a distraction for the students. Even with Zoom applications, you can use a green background and replace it with another within the same platform without problems, if possible.

Likewise, this space must be well lit so that your face looks good. Avoid sitting with your back to a window as you will see yourself against the light. Finally, it is recommended that this space be as quiet as possible to avoid unnecessary interruptions.

Before class starts

Before starting, you must be clear about the student’s needs and adjust the contents of the class. Try to put yourself in the student’s place to know if the resources and tools are adequate to guarantee to learn. Although each class can be flexible, you must keep in mind the overall syllabus and teaching objectives. Ask yourself what knowledge the student must have acquired at the end of the classes. It is not the same to think of reinforcement classes, courses to prepare for an exam, courses to refresh knowledge, etc.

It may seem very obvious, but before starting the class, always check:

  • If you are using a laptop, plug the charger into your laptop as you don’t want it to turn off in the middle of class.
  • Pre-open files, pages, etc., you need so you don’t waste time looking for them during class.
  • Close or delete any files you don’t need from your desktop to protect your privacy. If possible, create a second user account just to teach, so you can keep your desktop at ease and private.
  • Stop all your notifications to avoid distractions and reveal any personal or sensitive information to your students.

What platform to use to teach your classes?

There are a variety of platforms for video-transmissions that are being used for Virtual Learning, and each one has different functions and characteristics. These are some of the most used:

Zoom

Zoom is one of the most widely used platforms for video conferencing, webinars, and online classes today, especially after the pandemic.

Among Zoom features are that classes can be recorded to be able to watch the videos later, conferences can be scheduled, Zoom also can simultaneously display the screen and the webcam. It also offers a virtual whiteboard; it integrates calendar apps; it can be scheduled a virtual background, has a chat tab, and much more.

One of the exciting features to avoid trolls is the waiting room, so you can verify the students’ identity before entering and prevent any undesirable user who wants to ruin your day.

Google Meet

Google Meet has very particular and useful characteristics, especially when it comes to teaching online classes. For example, other participants can be silenced or eliminated, and anonymous users are not allowed. Zoom’s video calls are encrypted, it can be used from PC, and mobile devices can be entered directly with Gmail. Up to 250 participants are allowed, among other advantages.

Moodle

Moodle is a platform that is used to create virtual courses by uploading videos, as well as through other didactic resources, which allows establishing not only other communication channels between teachers and students but also facilitates collaborative learning environments.

Google Hangouts

This application has the advantage that it works directly with the browser, so it is unnecessary to download additional software or extension. Likewise, Hangouts comes integrated with Gmail. It allows you to share the screen. You can have control over the camera and audio of the participants. You can make live broadcasts through YouTube with this tool, which is ideal if you want to teach an introductory course or do not have a list specific to students.

Other additional tools such as Skype, EasyMeeting, and Microsoft Teams, among others, all with their free and paid versions. In the end, it’s about getting the one that best suits your needs and using the most appropriate one.

If you lack ideas, you can use other teachers’ experience, visiting free online course platforms. See what resources they use and how you could apply them in your class.

This will help you to be able to master virtual classes successfully, leaving your students wanting more and, best of all, with many lessons in their hands. Remember, virtual classes are not about a monologue or speech but about creating a suitable space to impart and acquire new knowledge.
